To rent or to own?

Every year millions of people just like you enter the exciting world of homeownership.  It is the biggest financial investment many people will ever make. However, the experience doesn’t have to be scary.  Owning a home is one of the safest investments you can make.  When a person decides to rent, usually very little thought goes into the financial ramifications that go along with it.  It is understood that your rent money goes into someone else’s pocket.  Oddly enough, when people decide it’s time to own their own home, and thus start building equity, they tend to get nervous.  Even though it’s probably the smartest and safest thing they’ve ever done with their money, they can become overwhelmed and anxious.

Should I look for a new home or a used home?

Often, the charm of an older home is overshadowed by the amount of work that it takes to sustain that charm.  An older home most likely comes with an older roof, an old furnace, inefficient energy components and outdated plumbing and electrical systems.  Remember that homes that were built years ago were built only with the technology that was available at that time.  Think of all of the innovations in just the last several years. With the advent of the Internet alone, home wiring systems of yesterday have become functionally obsolete.  With your new O’Connor Home, you are ensured that all of the components and materials in keeping with current technology.

Unless you have the exact same lifestyle and tastes as the strangers who lived in your home before you, you will likely have to make sacrifices in the way you live.  Used homes are designed for the lifestyles of the people who used to live there.  Depending on how old the home is, those differences could be drastic.  Have you ever walked through an old home and peeked into one of the tiny closets and thought to yourself,  “Did people not wear clothes before my time?”  As times change, so do lifestyles.  And as lifestyles change, so do designs and decorating trends.  The way in which families lived 50 years ago is significantly different than how they live today.  Whether it's the need for larger closets, an attached 2-car garage, or just being able to choose the colors and options that reflect your personality, building your very own home has its advantages.
